Troop #1 scouts and leaders
Along the hike to Table Rock
Logan's Boy Scout Troop #1 recently visited City of Rocks National Reserve, located in south-central Idaho on the northern edge of the Great Basin, just outside of Almo, Idaho. Our two-day adventure included sixteen scouts and six leaders who packed up and departed on June 20th from First Presbyterian Church in Logan for a land strewn with gigantic rocks, boulders and beautiful mountain trails.
Saturday morning after breakfast and a lesson on reading a map and using a compass, we departed on our 5-mile journey to Table Rock. After a brief lunch, half the troop went on an interpretive tour of local edible plants while the other half went on a adult-supervised rock climbing trek.
Saturday dinner was quite the experience, with tasty dutch oven potatoes along with dutch oven beans and ground beef on the menu....along with smores for dessert!
After a non-denominational service Sunday morning and some rank advancement, we all packed up and departed for home! It was quite the experience for our new scouts, as well as some of our more experienced older scouts and leaders!
